Buying Art

The Young Collector

Here’s our take on the Young Collector: The young collector has a marvelous chance to find the young Picassos, Klees, Cezannes of the 21st Century right here in Chelsea, New York.

You'll see a seemingly unlimited selection...from the truly gifted to the truly phony. The trouble is...how do you find the artists...and how do you get another pair of eyes to help you select just the right paintings for your collection?

We can help. Step One is to develop a Profile of your own point of view on Art. (This is surprisingly akin to your Investment posture; some like to take risks and some prefer to play it safe.

You need to know which type of Collector you are.

We don't need to remind you, we are sure, of the upside to Smart Collecting; the "right art" can appreciate in value a lot more than those dusty shares of Enron you may be sitting on.

Plus...you get to LIVE WITH THE ART.

NARTY is here for those Collectors who want to do some serious looking and buying. Here would be a perfect Young Collector couple: He is working for a large bank in NYC; she is an adjunct professor at NYU.
They have recently moved into a new apartment. There is a big, blank wall over their couch. And there are smaller blank spaces in the hallway and in the bedroom.

Bingo!

They can start right now by emailing NARTY a digital photo of their living room, along with a brief note about the sort of artwork they like. We'll offer some samples, like these.

There will be much more to follow here...NARTY is in the galleries and studios all the time...we pride ourselves on having the skill to select Winners...including the really Big Winners in the decades to come.

By extension..the corollary to this is that we also avoid the Losers.

Give us a call. We can help.

Sales Bin

Especially for the Young Collector, we offer sketches, drawings, exercizes and other mainly Works on Paper...all priced between $100 and $200. It’s a great way to grab some quality art at a VERY low price. If you want them framed, we can do that...(best prices in NYC.)

"Potato Pattern"
This series is inspired by the early watercolor work of Sam Francis (with a nod to Pollack)...note the drip and splash marks. The medium may surprise you: Coffee! These are working drawings to develop a (don’t laugh) Drip System for major works planned.

Price: $100
Size: 8" x 10"

"Steel Gut."
This series is mixed media; watercolor and acrylic. These works explore the various tints/shades/nuances of the grey palette; each one has different properties, ranging from dense black to silvery greys.

Price: $100
Size: 8" x 10"

"Suibokuga #1"
These calligraphic drawings follow in the tradition of Chinese and Japanese Ink Paintings. These are appealing because they are so direct...bang! You have the gesture the artist intended. The action of wrist, brush, ink, paper. Nothing profound...very highly appealing.

And there is this vertical splash.
Same price. Same size.

Price: $100
Size: 8 x 10"

If you wish to purchase art...let us know. If you have a specific artist or work of art you want...let us know. If you have a spot on your wall (like over the blue couch) let us know. In fact, send us a digital photo of your empty wall and we can help you find something you can live with. And afford. Mention your budget in that case.

Paintings to Order

This is sheer fun: You want something you cannot find! Maybe you wish you had a big, abstract painting for that grand space on your new living room wall. Try as you will, so far, nothing seems "right." You’d REALLY like it if the painting was by Pablo or Juan or Jasper. (Picasso or Gris or Johns, to afficianados.)

Well, hello! Have you checked the Sotheby’s Catalog lately? You could buy Kevin Costner’s old house in Beverly Hills for the price of one of those babies. So...what do you do?

You call us. We’ll have a pleasant chat...discuss you artistic yens; then we’ll show you some sketches...show you how they’d look on your empty wall.

If you like...we have the finished painting executed to size and you are one happy Collector.

We do NOT do copies; our painters work "in the manner of," and each painting is an original in its own right. The subject could be your own beachfront. Or your favorite mountain view up in Wyoming. Or it might be a portrait of your wife. Or you beloved pet Poodle. Whatever. We guarantee satisfaction. 100% of the time.

Just let us know.

The Collectors

Newbies:
Collectors just starting out. Our Sales Bin is perfect; nothing is in there that is not marvelous; only the prices are low.

Comfortably Affluent:
40-somethings who are buying for their homes or their summer places. Often careful about spending. They want quality art.

Cowboy Collectors:
Snooty New Yorkers can look down their noses at Art of the West; not us. We’ve lived out there and we love the wide-open desert spaces.

Smart Bargainers:
Shrewd cookies...often self-made guys. These are the quintessential "I know what I like"-ers. No point in arguing with them...we expose them to good work and let them call their own shots.

EuroCollectors:
They read Art In America, too. Often they buy work ahead of American collectors. And when the Euro is strong, prices in NYC can look highly affordable.

Rockefellers:
Old Money. Grew up with art. Often have very refined taste and
great instincts. We are good for them to bounce ideas off of. And we can help when it’s an "either/or" situation.

Hedge Fund Managers:
Money is no object. Impact is. Trophy Art is de rigeur. Morandi is out.

Corporate Buyers:
Smart buyers with special needs. Might be the boss’s corner office or a public space. For them, commissioned art is often a good choice. We give them The Look without the higher prices.
